News Team Henselite Selina Goddard and Jo Edwards claim National Titles
January 23, 2017

Selina Goddard and Jo Edwards etched their names on two of the Champions trophies at this year's 2016/2017 Heartland Bank National Open Championships.

Team Henselite's Selina Goddard (from Carlton Cornwell) couldn't wipe the smile from her face after picking up the Women's Singles title following a 21-9 win in the final over Reen Stratford.

"It's day two of having the trophy and i don't think the excitement will be settling down anytime soon!" Selina told us after the event. "Its an unreal feeling to win such a prestigious title and have my name engraved alongside many legends of the game."

"During the winter here in NZ its our off season, and since returning back to NZ last December from playing on the Gold Coast, I found it quite different not playing in as many events as i was used to during the mid year. So to get rid of the itch of not playing, it was a good opportunity for me to fit in a lot of practise." It was practice that paid off for the young Commonwealth Games Medallist who is looking forward to the next few months of bowls.

"Our centre events and club events are just warming up, as well as the NZ Open which is coming up in February - that's the next major event for myself. I'm teaming up with Karen Hema and Ashleigh Jeffcoat."

In the women's Fours, Team Henselite's champion Blackjack, Jo Edwards skipped her fours team of Val Smith, Kirsten Edwards and Tayla Bruce to victory. This is the fourth National title for Jo who is moving across the ditch to bowl with the Pine Rivers Pirates in Brisbane, Australia.
